Full Sun Herbs From The Growers Exchange

Herbs are among the easiest plants to grow. However, there’s more to growing herbs than just planting them in a pot, putting it in a sunny area and hoping for the best.

For instance, some herbs don’t do well in the sun. You might know this for a fact if you’ve ever had herbs die on you during the summer ones. Fortunately, there are many herbs that flourish in full sun. The following are some examples of full sun herbs that thrive in sunshine.

Patchouli: If you’re growing full sun herbs for aromatic value, you can’t go wrong with patchouli. This plant has a distinctive musky, sweet and earthy scent, which is why it’s so often used to make fragrances.

Basil: Out of all full sun herbs, basil is one of the easiest to grow. It thrives indoors and outdoors as long as you ensure it gets enough sunlight and moisture. What’s more, there are many varieties of basil to choose from, such as the dark-purple Amethyst Basil, culinary herb Thai Siam Queen Basil and high-yield Italian Large-Leaf Basil.

Rue: This herb is a triple threat: It’s drought-resistant, an attractive ornamental plant and a natural pest repellent.

Pineapple Sage: This sun-loving, fast-growing shrub blooms in the summer and fall, rewarding gardeners with striking trumped-shaped red flowers. Pineapple sage grows equally well in full sun and partial shade. However, pineapple sage is not good friends with frost, so make sure to bring your plants indoors from fall to overwinter.
