Grosso Lavender Plants

Lavandula x intermedia 'Grosso'

'Grosso' Lavender is hardier than other Lavender varieties, and is best appreciated for its sturdy growth habit and ease of drying and preserving. This aromatic herb works well as a fragrant hedge or an accent when planted with Bergamot, Feverfew or Joe Pye Weed. One of the tallest Lavender varieties, 'Grosso' is also deer and rabbit resistant, grows easily in sandy or salty conditions and is very self sufficient. Because its blooming flower stalks are more round than other varieties, 'Grosso' is commonly called "Fat Spike".

Like other Lavenders, 'Grosso' is known as a stress reliever and is added to many shampoos, lotions and Aromatherapy spa products for its soothing effect. Producing huge, profuse blooms, this is commercially preferred over other strains because of its tolerance to cold. Because this is a hybrid, 'Grosso' is sterile and will not produce seed. The best way to propagate is from stem cuttings once the plant is established.

Important Tips for Fat Spike, Grosso Lavender:

  • Well drained soil - lavenders will not tolerate poor drainage so add sand if you need to improve the quality of your soil. Most lavender 'deaths' occur because of wet roots. An alkaline soil is best.
  • They cannot tolerate humidity: damp, still air makes them susceptible to fungus ailments
  • Lavenders need full sun- 6 to 8 hours of sunshine for these Mediterranean natives

Uses: A lovely aromatic, 'Grosso' is used commercially to make soaps, lotions and aromatherapy products. Natural oils found in Lavender also help to aid healing after being burned. Try applying Lavender oil to reduce scarring and to help regenerate healthy skin much quicker.

Tips: Makes a great ground cover or border plant and will also grow easily in a large pot or container. This is a more cold hardy variety and is deer, rabbit and drought resistant.

Deserves extra stars ⭐️ April 30, 2019
Reviewer: Terry from OXFORD, MS United States
When the plant arrived I stuck it in sandy soil and walked away. Two years later, it is doing great. It is about 1 1/2 feet wide and in full bloom. I can stand seven feet away and smell its relaxing fragrance. The bees are happy and so am I.

So far...so good ... April 30, 2019
Reviewer: James Stone from Schaumburg, IL United States
I was a little late in ordering this gem of a plant, but it is getting larger as the days come and go. I followed all  the instructions included in the well protected shipping container.  Looking forward to seeing the progress of this plant which will be blossoming later in the summer. Looking forward to ordering more plants from this company next spring.

Don't look very healthy June 19, 2017
Reviewer: Adriana Molina from KENDALE LAKES, FL United States
Although I waited a few days before transplanting it to the garden does not look very healthy but apparently is struggling to survive, it may be due to the excessive heat that has been in Miami. It is worth adding that it arrived in perfect condition with to the others whose reviews I already made and that have adapted perfectly to my garden. I'm waiting for other lavender plants to see if I have better luck.
