Goji Berry Plants

Lycium barbarum

AKA: Wolf Berry This rare and unusual herb, considered a 'Super Fruit', is native to south-eastern Europe and Asia, and is the same family as the tomato. Easy to grow, Goji Berry prefers well-draining soil and full to part sun. The plant produces branching, vine like stems with star-shaped blooms in white, lilac to purple. The blooms will produce oval bright orange to red berries, 1/2 to 1 inch, in the summer.

Goji Berry has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Nutritionally dense, filled with amino acids, Vitamin C and antioxidants, Goji Berry is used to enhance the immune system, protect the liver, improve eyesight, relieve joint pain, treat impotence, diabetes, dizziness, relieve sore throat pain ~ no wonder it's called a 'Super Fruit'!

Eaten raw or dried, or made into a juice or tea, the berries have a sweet tomato-like flavor. In China, Goji Berry is used in a variety of dishes from soups and stews to teas. Some have described this sweet, mildly tangy berry as a cross between a cherry and a cranberry!

A word of caution: taking this herb in combination with blood thinners, blood pressure drugs or diabetes medications may interfere with the effectiveness of the pharmaceuticals.
