Who We Are

All about us and how we grow!

Roots

In 1985, The Growers Exchange opened in an abandoned Texaco station on a busy urban street corner in Richmond, Virginia. We spent twenty years growing an environment within the store and the community that encouraged an exchange of plant and gardening information. Our loyal customers and dedicated staff were responsible for our steady growth.

Our stated mission is to provide top quality plants and garden-related products in the widest possible selection. We have spent the past 20 years fulfilling that mission in the Richmond area, and look forward to making sure that we provide our new customers with the same level of quality and selection. Please visit our gardening blog for further information, growing tips, and gardening articles.

Growth

In order for us to control the diversity and quality of the plants we offered, we needed to grow our own! In 1987, we opened our nursery in Charles City County, 25 miles east of Richmond along the shores of the historic James River. We currently have 5 distinct growing environments with 5 acres under cover. We are able to grow a variety of plants: herbs, perennials, annuals, fresh flowers and produce. We are also able to buy in from the finest nurseries and greenhouses in the country, and pass their best on to our customers.

New Varieties

Twenty years of success is a lot to be thankful for, and we are grateful to those loyal customers in Richmond who got us started. However, if we don't change, we don't grow. In the summer of 2005, we closed the doors to the local market, and moved onto the Internet. We are now based at our facility in Charles City, and have been connecting and exchanging with gardeners all over the country. It is exciting to be able to share the best we grow with such a large and diverse market. It is straight from our farm to your garden!
