The History of The Growers Exchange
30 years ago The Growers Exchange opened its doors on a busy urban street corner in an area called
Carytown in Richmond, VA. For 20 years, this former Texaco Station grew into a landmark – The place to go for anything from fresh flowers to perennials to unusual gift items and more. We were open 7 days a week, from 8 – 6, and supplied the Richmond market with all of their gardening needs. We even had a service, Gone To Pot, that serviced clients pots and containers in their own homes.
In order to control both quality and variety, we opened a greenhouse and nursery operation on our family farm in 1987, There, in Charles City County, 25 miles east of Richmond along the shores of the historic James River, we began to grow almost everything we sold. In fact, with the exception of foliage plants, we grew everything we sold!
Taking Herbs Online
By 2005, we realized that demand for our plants and products had outgrown our local market and began making plans to move onto the world wide web. After several years of planning, we launched
thegrowers-exchange.com and it didn't take long for word to spread among gardening enthusiasts from Maine to California, Texas to Michigan. Our website allowed us to interact with gardeners from across the country and discover what people really wanted to grow, resulting in new friends and loyal customers.
Since 2008, The Growers Exchange has grown with the changing garden trends. Now, when asked what we grow, our answer is HERB PLANTS. We had offered herbs as part of our collection, but thanks to customer feedback from across the nation, we're now passionate herb growers who take pride in providing our customers with the best variety and quality herbs in the marketplace. We also have a passion for gardening and living naturally.
