Description Briscoe's Tips

Artemisia dracunculus.

French Tarragon is the aristocrat of fresh herbs, a chef's best friend, and a must for any "Culinary Herb Garden"! It has a spicy anise flavor that will transform an ordinary dish into a work of art. A little tarragon in chicken salad makes a profound difference! It is wonderful in sauces, soups and meat dishes. Try it with vegetables. It is the choice for any hearty dish. Fresh tarragon is also the traditional ingredient of 'Fines Herbes'.

Historically, Tarragon was used to soothe stomach aches, toothaches, and cure colic. The belief that it cured snakebites prompted early travelers to carry Tarragon in their boots in case of an emergency. The antibacterial and anti fungal properties to Tarragon are what really make this herb medicinally special. Tagetes 'Mexican Mint Marigold' can also be a great substitution in dishes for Tarragon.

Tarragon enjoys full sun and well-drained soil. The key to healthy tarragon plants is well-drained soil. Try planting in a porous container where you have more control over the moisture levels. It likes it dry.

For your own 'Fines Herbes' garden, plant along side thymes and parsleys!

so pretty September 20, 2016
Reviewer: Kathy Daniel
We have had awful weather here, rainy/cloudy/cool. My plants arrived so healthy and pretty.  I finally got them in the ground and they have already grown at least 2 inches.

Healthy plants November 11, 2015
Reviewer: Amy Opin from ONALASKA, WI United States
My four tarragon plants arrived happy and healthy. After a week (I know, too long) I transplanted them into terra cottas. They are thriving. They smell great, but I'm going to wait for more growth before I start hacking off parts for my recipes. [I bought tarragon from another online company last year and it had mealy bugs.] Very pleased with the Growers Exchange's tarragon!

Tarragon 'French' October 21, 2015
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Orlando, FL United States
I was very pleased to find Tarragon plants as it’s been impossible to find in the area I live. The 4 plants that I ordered arrived in the time promised. The plants were healthy & in good condition, as they were well packed in a box that held the plants securely while being shipped to me. As instructed by the Growers Exchange, I planted the plants together in a porous planter. I’ve also been keeping the plants well drained in full sunlight during the late morning/ early afternoon as the sun is very hot in Florida. So far the plants are thriving well. I hope to eventually plant them in the ground, as a friend of mine has a tarragon plant and it grows like a weed now that it is large & the size of a bush. I often use tarragon in many recipes so it's convenient & cheaper than having to pay $2-3 for a small bunch from the grocery store that only lasts a week or two.  I highly recommend purchasing herbs from Grower’s Exchange as they obviously take pride in their products & customers.

Favorite Herb! June 5, 2015
Reviewer: Nancy Funderburg from Katy, TX United States
I have not been able to find French Tarragon in any of my gardening establishments here in Texas.  I was extremely pleased with my plants when they arrives, and I've already used some of the leaves to make chicken salad.  I ordered 4 and they are growing beautifully next to my basil, which is also thriving (and also from Grower's Exchange).  Highly recommend ordering anything from Growers.
