Rudbeckia hirta

Rudbeckia hirta is the far superior container and cutting Black Eyed Susan. They have gigantic golden flowers measuring 4-7" across and coarse, sturdy stems that produce semi-double and single flowers all summer long. This is a wonderful cut flower that will bloom until the frost.

Rudbeckias are drought resistant but make sure to water your Black Eyed Susans well in the first year to get them firmly established. Low maintenance and resistant to deer, these hardy annuals require little to no maintenance. Ideal for cut bouquets or arrangements because of their beautiful color and long, straight stems, 'Indian Summer' will produce higher yields of beautiful blooms if given lots of sun and little fertilizer.

As with its sister plant, Rudbeckia 'Prairie Sun', 'Indian Summer' is considered medicinally valuable as an astringent. The plant's roots contain chemical properties that aide in the treatment and healing of sores, swelling and snakebites.

There are so many reasons to grow Rudbeckia 'Indian Summer', but one of the top 10 is the fact that it produces great cut flowers - tall, sturdy stems and huge, bright flowers that are the easiest to arrange.  In a flower bed, your eye is immediately drawn to these flowers.
