Chocolate Mint Plants

Mentha x piperita 'Chocolate'

Mint is one of our favorite herbs because of its low maintenance, vigorous growth and diverse variety! This delicious culinary herb can best be described as Peppermint with chocolate overtones. Chocolate Mint is a fun alternative to the regular Peppermint and can be used for the same purposes.

Chocolate Mint, like all Mints, likes full to partial sun and moist soil. It works well when container planted with other culinary herbs, as it tends to have a creeping habit that cascades over the container's sides. Container planting will also help control the plant's eager growth, as Mint can often be difficult to remove from the garden once established.

Chocolate Mint is a fantastic Mint for desserts, garnishes and making teas. Its subtle chocolatey tones paired with the sharp hints of Peppermint make this a delicious variety when blended with Kentucky Colonel Mint or Orange Mint.

Like other Mint varieties, Chocolate Mint has a soothing effect when taken in tea form and aides in digestion. Taking on qualities from the Peppermint side of its makeup, Chocolate Mint will also repel ants, aphids, cabbage flies and mice. Try growing this versatile herb around the foundation of your home, or sprinkling some in your pantries and closets to keep pests from invading your home.

Uses: A fragrant culinary herb, Chocolate Mint is similar to Peppermint in taste with a warm, chocolaty undertone. Tastes great in teas or to bake with. Like other Mints, Chocolate Mint is a great natural pest repellent! Try growing this versatile herb around the foundation of your home, or sprinkling some in your pantries and closets to keep pests from invading your home. When left to bloom, Chocolate Mint's fragrant flowers will attract droves of beneficial pollinators to your garden!

Tips: Like all other Mints, Chocolate Mint spreads quickly and comes back strong each year. You may want to cut it back often or plant it in a pot or container to control its quick growth habit.
