Helianthus 'Low Down' Plants

Helianthus Salicifolis

Also known as 'Willowleaf Sunflower' So, you've never grown this sunflower because it is impossible to keep in a container, right? Not any more! This diminutive version reaches only 18" by the time it blooms, but has the flower power of its 8' cousins. No pinching, staking or cussing required!

Helianthus 'Low Down' is a great addition to the front of the border for late summer and fall color. An explosion of bright yellow flowers with dark brown eyes forms in mid-fall on small upright plants. Narrow elongated foliage. Sunflower look for front of garden borders and beds. Birds enjoy the seeds.

For fall planting, we also offer 'First Light' Helianthus which grows to 3 feet.
Zone: 6 - 8

Size: 12"H x 24"S

Light: Full to Part Sun

Bloom: Yellow, Late Summer - Fall

Tips: Not too big, not too small ... just right'! We find that many of our native sunflowers are just too big for an average garden. What we need, and what we have is a genetic dwarf that grows only a foot tall, yet is smothered in bright yellow daisy-like flowers throughout the Fall. The stems are densely clothed in narrow elongated foliage. Seeds provide winter food for birds.
