Description Briscoe's Tips
Withania somnifera

We love herb gardening with exotic herb plants. A strong and vigorous plant, Ashwagandha is considered the "hottest herb in India" and is known as 'Indian Ginseng' and 'Winter Cherry'. The leaves and roots are used as both an aphrodisiac and a sedative!

Used by Ayurvedic healers for thousands of years, Ashwagandha is used to reduce inflammation, decrease stress and increase the libido. This medicinal herb plant grows into a small, woody shrub with elliptical green leaves, producing small, uniform five-petaled flowers and small red seeds. Preferring hot, full sun, this herb will grow well after ALL chance of frost is gone. Given proper temperatures, soil depth and adequate (but not excessive) watering, the Ashwagandha root should be ready to harvest in the first year.

cool plant October 4, 2016
Reviewer: daniel briere from north scituate, RI United States
This is my first time growing this plant, arrived in excellent condition, off to a great start, I guess it's related to tomato potato eggplant etc so I treated it like one of those, I gave it lots of rich worm castings and organic fertilizer, and reported larger pot and it's grown 5 or 6 inches in the past few warm weeks in my greenhouse. Very excited to see it mature! Thanks again! -Danny From RI
