    Artemisia annua

Artemisia 'Sweet Annie' is a wonderfully aromatic annual that will scent your whole yard with sweetness! Growing up to six feet tall, Sweet Annie is a formidable plant in the garden and self seeds profusely.

An amazing fragrance for dried crafts and arrangements, Sweet Annie holds both its scent and lush, green color for a long time after drying. Its feathery, fern-like foliage is a beautiful compliment to wreathes and arrangements, and is often used to replace Baby's Breath as a filler. The plant's woody stem can also be used to create a frame for the actual wreath that its leaves and flowers can be used to decorate! This is such a long-loved fragrance that people once used this as a natural air freshener in homes and general stores, as well as kept it hanging in their pantries to repel bugs and scent their stored goods.

Also a natural pesticide and insect deterrent, plant Sweet Annie near your porch or patio and keep the gnats and other pests at bay all summer long! This easy to care for herb also has some medicinal qualities, found within its seeds and fragrant leaves. Taken internally in tea form, it was once used to treat colds and fevers, and its derivatives may also prove to be antimalarial. As an external poultice, Artemisia can also reduce the symptoms of boils and abscesses.

Easy to container plant, transplant to other areas of the yard or pull up if it is overwhelming your other plants, this sweet Artemisia prefers sunny or partially sunny areas and well-drained soil.

Bloom: Yellow, Mid Summer to Early Fall

Uses: 'Sweet Annie' is the perfect herb for dried wreaths and crafts. Its long-lasting verdant color and sweet scent will remain enjoyable and fresh for a long while after picking. Also a terrific natural deer and insect repellent, plant this sweet smelling herb near your decks, gazebos and patios to ward off unwanted pests during nice summer nights!

Tips: Artemisia is a very vigorous self-seeder, so unless you would like your plants to multiply, we suggest deadheading them before they begin to drop. Handling the leaves and pollen of this plant may also cause skin irritation to people with sensitive allergies. Space plants about one foot apart when planting for best spacing.

Love Sweet Annie! May 16, 2014

I purchased 6 plants and they arrived in a flat, partitioned box in perfect shape. I was happy to find Sweet Annie to add to my Tansy bed, as both are great natural insect & moth repellents, and the sweet scent is a lovely addition to my scented wreaths!

Sweet Annie - one of my favorite aromatics! February 10, 2012
Reviewer: Mary Schnibben from Woodridge, IL United States
The sweet-spicy scent of this wonderful herb is a 'must' for anyone making herbal sachets or wreaths.
I mix a bit of the leaves & seeds with some dried rose petals, lavender flowers, meadowsweet blossoms and a bit of patchouli. Put into a small mesh bag & tie securely. Remember not to ingest by humans or pets! This is strictly a crafts herb.

It keeps its fragrance for a long time in everlasting wreaths & bouquets.
Harvest plants in late summer/ early fall in dry weather when yellow flowers have appeared & foliage turns yellowish-green. Cut close to the ground. To dry, tie 3-5 branches in bundles & hang upside down in a dark dry area for a couple of weeks or 'til completely dry. (They will gradually turn a light brown as they dry.)

Sweet Annie is great for repelling moths and insects in dresser drawers & closets and makes your linens, lingerie, etc. smell wonderful!
